Division One
A change of venue saw the long journey to Norman Park Replace the quick trip to Deptford Park for the heavyweight clash that is Jam FC vs New Life, yet New Life arrived early and RARING to go.
The usual heated phone calls and ‘discussions’ between jams manager and The new Life Hierarchy leading up to the game .was exchanged, eventually - it was decided we would decide this on the pitch
Valentine was brought in to sure up the defence with Jo out injured with a back problem, with Harry at left back and Chris slotting into right back to cover for the missing Michael- New Life started of the louder and more confident team, Jam seemingly and notably despondent to their managers screams and random pleading for order.
Within ten minutes we were dominating and Mo hit the bar with a sweet shot. The chants of ‘WHOS LIFE – NEW LIFE’ grew.
We pushed on, we won our headers, we won our battles, and we won our tackles. We played a physical game as we know Jam are used to bullying people, NOT TODAY. Today the tables were somewhat turned. Then it came, the hard work paid off with an easy finish for the division’s top scorer Jack Francisco to top of his hard work. Still we remained focus.
A (innocent) high tackle from Ayo took a chunk of a Jam midfielder’s leg and a few of the Jam boys started to lose it. Luckily though, they found it before the ‘friendly brawl’ turned too ugly, good for them. The ref called for half time early.
New Life took a spirited and very loud half time huddle onto the pitch with them and within ten minutes, a very fired up Ayo scored a wonderful goal. Pouncing on a miskick from their keeper to log him from around 30 yards, contender for goal of the season.
To the credit of Jam they pushed us hard for the last 20 as they had nothing to lose. Jams manager decided to put himself on up front as the answer and New Life started to relax, perhaps this is why they were able to scramble a low cross from the right in , their only shot on target of the game.
The whistle went five minutes later and a big win for New Life was sealed.
Hands were shaken with most of the Jam players and it was nice to get a victory over the club that broke away from New Life two years ago in a fashion I would not consider ‘amicable’.
Perry was awarded the managers man of the match for a solid display and was pushed hard for it by Sol,Luke and Chris.
