Division One
Joe Howe's improving team overpowered toothless Lessa FX at Charlton Park to ascend to first place in the Division One, their goals coming with two sensational strikes from Mohammed Bello(a.k.a Mo Fire), Perry Cochrane, and, most handsomely, Dre Peii (Paul), who was just back in the squad with his first touch to seal the victory .
Newlife United were in charge from the very first minute to the last against this feeble opposition, who defended in abject fashion and couldn’t have a shot on target for the entire 90mins in this encounter.
Joe was delighted with his players' reaction after last week's 2-1 victory over their No.1 rival Jam FC and singled out Mohammed for individual praise. He revealed having "an honest conversation" with his players "few minutes to kickoff", during which he had declared how important it was for them to win
The manager said: "I pointed out that Newlife United were the favourite to win the league only if they can be consistent in winning every game. Since that conversation the teams’ response has been quite outstanding. I thought they were brilliant in every aspect of their game and if they keep playing like that they’ll be crown as the league winner."
Lessa FX had an awful performance the previous weekend, and switched from 4-4-2 to 4-2-3-1, discarding a striker in the process.
That security lasted eight minutes. Then talented Ayo's one touch pass located Mohammed on the right flank after a dead ball from the opposition’s goal keeper after he ran out his goal line. The prolific winger brilliantly chipped 40 yards to lob the keeper to find the net.
GOAL!!!!GOAL!!!! GOAL!!!!GOAL!!!! GOAL!!!!GOAL!!!! GOAL!!!
1-0 to United.
Jack quickly threatened to improve United's lead with a pulverising 10-yarder side footed to place wide, forcing the goal keeper flying to his left, clearly saved, only for the referee to award a goal-kick.
Lessa FX tried to play their customary passing game but in the presence of Sol and Ayo in the middle of the park, they struggled for possession and the only surprise about the way the free flow football played by Newlife United. They managed to defend with every strength in their possession not to concede another goal for the rest of the 40 minutes in the first half.
HALF TIME Newlife United 1- Lessa FX 0
Joe reiterated the importance of the required 3 point needed to ascend to the top spot in the league. It’s the beginning of the second half without any change to the teams’ formation. Newlife resumed where they had left off and within two minutes they showed their response to the half time talk given by their coach. This time it’s the improving Perry that made it 2-0 with his drive from the right flank across the oppositions’ defence line. Mo ran diagonally to give Perry the room to drive his right footed shot at a velocity that left the goalkeeper powerless to intervene. The ball is in the net.
It’s GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!
2-0 to United.
No doubt newlife is getting back to their usual style of play. They just too good for Lessa to handle. United continued to play with Pride, Confidence, Communication, Hunger and Belief. It was the best team performance this season.
Trailing by two with 51 minutes played, Lessa FX were in danger of a real hiding. Jack was too close for Lessas’ goalkeeper comfort with his low drive shot that was saved by legs of the keeper. Unlucky Jack, but the outcome long since settled when Perry lunched an inviting cross from the right flank to set Mohammed up for a sensational flying header to net his second goal for the day.
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! Mo FIRE
3-0 to United.
Mo can only get better with such a super flying header to put the visitors to bed. Joe sent on Moosa to replace Jack that received the applause of a crowd delighted that the precociously gifted striker had been consistent in every appearance for Newlife. Jack has been hitting the target for the past 11 consecutive games played by United. An even bigger cheer greeted the introduction of the new warhorse Moosa. By this stage Joe could easily afford to rest his most valuable asset for this season.
With 15mins left in the game, Joe brought on Paul to replace Mo just for him to come on to score with his first touch. Oppositions’ goalkeeper colliding with the Moosa for Paul calmly place the ball to the far corner,
It’s a GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
4-0 to United.
At this stage, Lessa FX have no chance to get back into the game as they have been completely outplayed by United. The referee then blew the final whistle to put the game to a halt.
