24th February 2013

Division One

Having revealed our latest signing (a calor gas fire for the changing room) the excitement for this top of the table clash was high.

The clash of kits oversight by myself was thankfully overlooked by the ref and kick off on this freezing fog cold morning was on time.

Spartans were all over us, relentless for the first 15 but without any real threat as Luke Faith Sured up the defence’s confidence with some excellent tackles and a few nice runs. With Mikey Mekka and Jo in place we were sure they weren’t going to bypass our defence

Spartans did break free in about the 20th minute, one on one with the keeper ,,saved…The warning signs were there

The pressure continued and just as we start to move higher up the pitch PENALTY, Our glorious leader catching their striker on the edge of the box.

Goal, dispatched comfortably.

With Harry Mo and Brown up front we pressed and probed, Harry letting off a couple of shots to test their keeper who made a number of good saves.

Half time the inquest began, Jo gives the troops their orders and Nick questions the guys hearts and points out the difference between aiming for the title and aiming for third.

The New Life war chant goes up and we hit the ground running for the second half Ayo tucking away a beauty of a shot within the first five minutes 1-1

It was mainly New Life after that, in fact Spartans only had one shot on target- the penalty for the whole game.

Unfortunately, even with the introduction of Jack Perry and Paul in the second half New Life were unable to finish of the Spartans who held firm. I rate their keeper as the man of the match for them and Luke Faith got the award for us although Sol ran him close for it with his usual commanding presence (and notably increased stamina).

All in all we trudged off dejected. I saw the pain in certain players eyes – WHICH MADE ME VERY HAPPY.

Not because I’m sadistic but because five months ago the same players lost 1-0 to Bromley Robins, we were on a slump near the bottom of the table and here we are in February—UPSET because we ALMOST had the chance to win the division!

Progress how can you not be happy with it?

We look forward to our next game Bromely Robins on the 10th March
